During demolition

Plan your demolition to keep reusable materials in good condition
Select reusable bricks and masonry and take them down by hand.If possible clean the bricks and stack on pallets for easy handling
Remove timber beams, doors, window frames, etc with care. Remove nails for safety and stack ready for supply
Remove roof tiles, slates, etc carefully by hand. Where possible, and when the site conditions allow, crush hardcore on site to save on transport needs
Reduce as much as possible the need for landfill.
Where can I get help?
A number of guides are available to help you reduce, reuse, reclaim and recycle.

The Construction Industry Council guide on reclaimed materials - Towards sustainability: a strategy for the construction industry.

These titles are available from RICS Books or RICS members can borrow them from the RICS Library.
